St Alphonsus & Young Sounds

Working in partnership with Young Sounds and Trafford Music Service, as part of the Connect Programme, helping musicians from low income families sustain their musical learning after initial state-funded class lessons end, so they can keep on progressing and playing music well into their teens and beyond. Since September 2024, Access for Music have funded 12 children from St Alphonsus Primary School to learn the clarinet. For more information about the programme, please visit Young Sounds Connect - Young Sounds

Two of our trustees visited the Royal Northern College of Music with the children as part of their three annual “get togethers” and they were able to meet the children that we are funding and see the impact of the Connect programme in practice.

It was a wonderful experience at the RNCM, and clearly appreciated enormously by the young musicians. The RNCM leaders and teachers were brilliant, and the use of their students added to the day. My reflections on our young musicians who attended were: committed, happy, thoughtful, focused, musical, engaged and confident… and we can say the same for their wonderful teachers. For myself and my colleague trustee, it was a great opportunity to learn about the impact of the stimulating and important programme.
